HIGH SCHOOL FOR FASHION

The seventh evening of the 23rd Beck’s Fashion Week in the Posejdon club in Belgrade new collection for the upcoming season was presented by Dejana Momčilović, who was absent for some time from the fashion scene. In the second part of the evening their collections presented Austrian Peter Pilotto who lives in work in London and Slobodan Mihajlović who showed his fall/winter 08/09 collection We Are Not Saints. The end of the evening was reserved for the fashion show of New Tendencies and young designers Svetlana Trifunović, Jelena Zdravković and Lena Popović, whose fashion show was supported by Puma. „Dejana Momčilović presented very interesting Incognito collection. I liked her experiment of scaled down forms and drapery and the combination of very different fabrics. I’ve noticed that the audience was thrilled!
Than we saw more than interesting collection of Slobodan Mihajlović. I appreciate Sloboda’s talent, work and determination to push his story, because this is not an easy thing to do nowadays. If you are good designers there are only two options available: to go in the big fashion company and lose your name or to suffer, very, very much to establish yourself. Young designers push their way and that’s brave and something to be respected. Making of fashion show takes months of work and stress. That’s an issue not only here at Belgrade Fashion Week but in the world too. Either you were eaten by Dior or Louis Vuitton and than thrown away after couple of years and than you are nothing or, if you are inside, you work the way they want you to work for the market of their choice at the moment. If China and India are best markets nowadays, than everything will be adapted to their taste. Rare are those young and gifted designers who enter a big fashion company and make a name there. Mark Jacobs is one of them who was lucky enough. He was also helped by the connection he had with the editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. The only real rival to American Vogue is the Chinese edition of it because it has a bigger circulation. All that line, China, Russia, India, is the center of the fashion business, those markets absorbs everything. And that’s why I appreciate Slobodan’s courage and determination to go his way and not give up of his views on fashion. Slobodan has improved a lot when it comes to commercial side of the work too, since that’s the whole point of the fashion anyway. Especially with him since he lives from what he makes and sells. It’s great he has knitted fabrics and jersey in his collection, those are key words in the fashion. Forms are excellent. Sloba has the style and talent. His fashion show was very emotional, which is the point of every fashion show in my opinion. The great styling and great forms. The whole point of the fashion nowadays is something which is not visible at the first sight but something that stresses body and natural beauty in many ways. Everything goes around it. A pair of jeans and white t-shirt do the same thing as an evening gown. That’s why Peter’s Pilotto collection was interesting which was very young, fresh, joyful. I was pleasantly surprised by the fashion show of new tendencies. It is always a pleasure to see the ideas of young designers. The biggest surprised, as for me, was the collection of Lena Popović. It so trendy. Everything was just fine – dresses, shoes, styling ... I wish them a lot of success in the future. As for new tendencies in France they are marked by Carla Bruni. Everything is the best on her, clean, scaled down, simple but yet very good. Keep that in mind.“
